The McMahon’s Reef Project is an orogenic gold system located 35 km east of Cootamundra, within the highly mineralised Lachlan Fold Belt. The project is a farm-in partnership with Legacy Minerals, similar to Hill Tops Gold’s Harden Project.
Gold mineralisation is hosted in sub-vertical quartz veins within a 10–15 m wide shear zone. Historical mining demonstrated the exceptionally high-grade nature of the deposit, with the Old McMahon’s Reef Mine producing 14,000 tonnes at 43.7 g/t Au, and the New McMahon’s Reef Mine producing 371 tonnes at 38.3 g/t Au. Two distinct lodes have been identified, the Pyrite Lode and the Quartz Lode, both intersected at shallow depths of 20–30 metres. The mineralised system is interpreted to extend for up to 10 km, indicating strong scale potential and continuity.
Drilling highlights at McMahon’s Reef include:
- 3.6m @ 30.04g/t Au from 115m, including 1m @ 40.80g/t Au
- 5m @ 4.5g/t Au from 107m, including 1m @ 9.4g/t Au
- 3m @ 2.8g/t Au from 87m, including 0.5m @ 7.4g/t
McMahon’s Reef remains open along strike and at depth, with shoot-like bodies believed to widen at depth, further enhancing exploration upside. Importantly, mining historically ceased due to excessive groundwater inflows rather than ore depletion, leaving considerable untested potential in place. Outcropping mineralisation further strengthens the project’s near-term development appeal.
In addition to gold, exploration has recorded anomalous results in arsenic, lead, zinc, copper, and silver, positioning McMahon’s Reef as not only a high-grade gold project but also prospective for critical minerals.
